If you are travelling from the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the easiest (and by far the only) way to get to Paris is by plane. Air France is the French monopolist offering frequent departures from New York City, Los-Angeles, Washington DC, Miami, and several other major American cities. Trips from other, slightly less in demand, cities are covered by domestic companies such as Delta Airlines, Continental Airlines, United Airlines, and American Airlines, although more often than not there are stopovers. In Canada, Air Canada offers direct flights to Paris from Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, and Edmonton, while Air France operates flights from Toronto and Montreal only.
Prices vary anywhere from $500 to $2000. Popular websites specializing in cheap airfares would often offer you a better price range. Note that while most American carriers are cheaper than Air France, Air Canada or British Airways, they usually charge extra fees for checked luggage (Continental and Delta Airlines) and do not provide meals on board.
There are two major international airports in Paris: Roissy Charles de Gaulle (CDG), which is located 26 kilometres northeast of Paris, and Orly (ORY), situated 16 kilometres south of the city. International travelers are most likely to arrive into AГ©rogare 1 of Roissy, but if you bought a ticket from Air France, AГ©rogare 2, reserved exclusively for the French carrier, will be where you land. At Orly airport, terminal Orly Sud is for international and charter flights, whereas Orly Ouest serves domestic flights only. There is free shuttle service between terminals in both airports. Paris Class Service offers great deals on transfers from both Paris airports.
If you are travelling from Europe, especially Central Europe, taking a train to Paris may be a good option, albeit not the cheapest one: it is as easy to cough up 300 euros for a train ticket, as it is to find a flight for 90 euros. However, crossing the English Channel on a Eurostar train is an experience of its own; the cheapest fairs from London to Paris (second-class) start at $160. Further, TGVs (trains Г grande vitesse, high-speed trains) make it possible to cross the whole country in a day, so train travel across France is probably best.
